Machu Picchu

Machu Picchu is a 15th century citadel located in the eastern cordillera of southern Peru. It is an Incan citadel set high in the Andes Mountains in Peru, above the Urubamba River valley. Built in the 15th century and later abandoned, it’s renowned for its sophisticated dry-stone walls that fuse huge blocks without the use of mortar, intriguing buildings that play on astronomical alignments and panoramic views. Its exact former use remains a mystery. This is a place which is visited by many tourists because of it’s archaeological importance. Most archaeologists believe that Machu Picchu was built as an estate for the inca emperor Pachacuti. This is also known as a symbol of the inca civilization.

Machu Picchu was built in the classical Inca style, with polished dry-stone walls. Its three primary structures are the Intihuatana, the Temple of the Sun, and the Room of the Three Windows. Most of the outlying buildings have been reconstructed in order to give tourists a better idea of how they originally appeared
